The Return of MagSafe

The original MagSafe was first introduced in 2006 during the Macworld Expo. It was designed to charge the Macbook Pro magnetically using 5 pins. MagSafe was used by Apple for its Macbook products up until 2017 when it was replaced by USB-C, and was missed by many of its users.

During Apple’s October event, MageSafe was reintroduced as a new line of accessories for the new iPhone 12. The new $39 charger claims to wirelessly charge the iPhone 12 up to 15W and could be paired with new cases and wallet.

The MagSafe uses magnets embedded in the iPhone 12 as well as on the charger to align perfectly to ensure a perfect connection. Apple hopes to try and create a whole new portless ecosystem using cloud and wireless technologies, and will continue to do so with any of its future products.
