Tips for Impressive TOEFL Score

Last week we have shared tips & tricks in achieving outstanding SAT score for applying to university, this week we’ll share for TOEFL. Before that, here are one or two things that you need to know about TOEFL:

  • The test is around 4 hours long with 4 sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) with a break between.

  • Each section has a range of score from 0-30, with the total score is from 0-120.

  • The reading section is 60-80 minutes long, the listening section - 60-90 minutes long, speaking - 20 minutes long and writing 50 minutes long.

Now, here are the tips and tricks in getting a first-rate TOEFL score:

  1. Set a goal score. To start with, you can set your score in TOEFL with the minimum re

quired (recommended) score of your dream school.

2. Prepare, Prepare, Prepare! Start studying and preparing for your test at least 3-6 months before to be ready to face the test (this applies to someone’s that’s proficient in English).

3. Choose an Early Test Date. An early test date will make sure that your score will arrive on time to your schools. If you’re applying to US schools, make sure you take the test no later than 6 weeks before the deadline. If outside US, take it no later than 10 weeks before.

4. Improve your Vocabulary. To improve, you can start by reading more and/or practicing in doing more vocabulary exercises.

5. Consider whether you want to retake the test. If you’re not confident that you’ll do well on your test, consider taking the test 6 months before the deadline so that you’ll be able to improve and re-take the test again.

Unfortunately, the closest TOEFL test (November 14)’s deadline is just closed. The next one would be on 13 February 2021 with the registration deadline on 15 January 2021. Good luck and do your best!
