Itchy skin, or also called puritus, is a sensation that is extremely bothersome and irritating for most people. It may seem as though it is not a big deal, however puritus can indicate skin conditions that are even considered to be medical emergencies. Here are some causes of itchy skin!
Candida
Usually occurs in skin folds such as armpits, buttocks, between fingers/toes
Progresses from itching to a stinging “wet-looking” red rash with dry crust
Bile Duct Obstruction (medical emergency)
Caused by gallstones, liver injury, gallbladder injury, inflammation, tumors, infections, or cysts.
Symptoms: yellowing skin and eyes, light colored stools, very dark urine, pain in the upper right side of the abdomen, nausea, fever, and vomiting
Cirrhosis
Symptoms: Diarrhea, swollen belly, weight loss, easy bruising, visible small spider shaped blood vessels under the skin
Hives
Small round itchy welts due to allergen, red and painful to touch
Allergic eczema
red, burn-like, blisters that are scaly and crusty.
Ringworm
Circular, scaly rashes with a healthy looking inside but harsh border.
Measles
Symptoms: fever, sore throat, red eyes, cough, runny nose,
3-5 days after these symptoms, a rash will appear from the face to the body.
Inside the mouth, small red spots with a light blue center appear.
Psoriasis
Silver, scaly patches usually on the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back
