Wi-fi & Computers: Current Education Inequality in Asia

Chinese and Hong Kong Universities have changed their learning method to online in such a quick way while some other Asian Universities still suspend their classes during the pandemic. This grows concerns that students from less privileged backgrounds or less well-funded institutions could be left behind since online classes depend very much on the environment and equipment available (wi-fi, laptops, especially quiet space). This “digital divide” is certainly apparent between “rich” countries and “poor” countries from their internet penetration rate. But, good news comes from China as they’re ensuring equal access by rising their internet penetration rate in rural areas. Hopefully, this support and effort will also be done by other countries across Asia so that there’ll still be unity in this current situation.
