Indonesian Engineer Donates 3D-Printed Face Shields

New Jersey, which ranks second for the most COVID-19 cases in America, had a total of 131,890 cases as of Thursday. 38 year-old New Jersey resident, Paladia Petty Sukarsaatmadja and her husband decided to provide aid by responding to the shortage of protective gear for medical personnel. They decided to use their own creativity by utilizing a 3D printer to produce face shields with designs that have been approved by the National Institute of Health. “We’ve had the printer for one year and we usually use it to print kids’ toys and to further learn about its technology as my husband and I have engineering backgrounds,” They first print out visors made of polylactic acid plastic filament before attaching an acrylic transparent sheet to it. They have produced around 470 face shields and donated them to hospitals and first responders.
