A few days after Malaysia’s partial lockdown was announced on March 18, their Women’s Affairs Ministry issued a campaign entitled #WomenPreventCOVID19. This campaign was started in an effort to suggest tips on how to keep domestic violence at bay during the lockdown. The campaign’s posters received countless backlash for their condescending and stereotypical depiction of women. The posters suggested that women should avoid nagging their husbands, do their household chores, and even always use makeup and dress up while at home. "These posters promote the concept of gender inequality and perpetuate the concept of patriarchy," said Nisha Sabanayagam, a manager at All Women's Action Society. In response to this campaign, a sexism row was sparked.
