Recently, biologists from the University of Bayreuth have discovered a unique rapid regeneration of damaged neurons and their functions of zebrafish.

The researchers studied the Mauthner cells, which are usually responsible for fish’s spontaneous escape behavior.

While the Mauthner cells react to injury in the nervous system with rapid regeneration, their regenerative ability depends on the location of the injury. Further study needs to be conducted.
