News from South America is rarely paid attention to by the rest of the world, with the exception of a global or national emergency. Social injustice, like any other country, also exists in South America, especially Chile and Ecuador.
Half a year ago, there were increasingly violent anti-government protests in Chile and Ecuador. These protests happened after both country leaders announced new economic announcements, which would cut government spendings to reduce deficits.
Despite having good economical figures, Chile (similar in Argentina) privatized almost every sector of its economy, including health care, pensions, and education. The average person in Chile makes around 700 Euros in a month while the costs of living are as expensive as living in Berlin.
This low income and high cost lifestyle creates a massive economic inequality and increases the gap between the rich and poor. Chile was ranked 7th as the world’s most economically unequal country.
